Senior Machine Learning Engineer, Ranking

This is the second-phase ranking model behind Quora's feed and its digest emails, which the posting calls one of the highest-leverage surfaces at the company, and the role owns it.

Quora runs two products, the knowledge platform and Poe, and this sits on the Quora side with the distribution team: feed, notifications and the digest. The job is end-to-end rather than modelling-only, covering data pipelines, candidate extraction, feature engineering, model training and the integration into production, and it includes building methodologies other engineers then build on. Asks are 3+ years on recommendation or ranking models, a real grasp of the mathematical foundations rather than just the libraries, and prior experience shipping a complete ML system. Preferred is 5+ years of Python or C++, plus generative recommendation systems and user-sequence or long-sequence modelling with transformers applied to ranking.

Two practical notes. Quora is remote-first and this role can be performed from a long list of countries, which it publishes at careers.quora.com/eligible-countries, but it also requires availability during coordination hours of 9am to 3pm Pacific, Monday to Friday, which is the real constraint on where you can live.
