Engineering Manager, Authentication Services

The Authentication Services team enables secure, reliable authentication experiences at 1Password by building and evolving the services, workflows, and infrastructure that power sign-in and identity verification. The team makes authentication capabilities easy to adopt and operate across the company, supporting the full lifecycle from designing and shipping new authentication features to operating them safely in production. As Engineering Manager, you will lead this team: setting strategic direction, driving delivery, and growing the people who build some of the most security-critical services in the product.

Responsibilities

• Help set and support strategic direction for the team, driving alignment and owning results in support of broader company objectives.
• Collaborate with senior individual contributors to create an engaging technical vision for the team.
• Work with cross-functional partners to define the best solutions for internal and external customers.
• Scope and plan key deliverables for projects and initiatives with the team.
• Drive execution with an emphasis on iterations and deliverables, quality, velocity, and communication.
• Provide technical leadership to developers on the team and across the engineering organization.
• Coach individual contributors to help them reach their full potential, and recruit and retain strong contributors in a dynamic, evolving environment.
• Continue scaling a highly specialized engineering team by working with other Engineering Managers to refine hiring, onboarding, and development processes.

Qualifications

• Several years of experience managing a team of engineers and owning and operating a service in production.
• Deep experience with cloud-native infrastructure and backend technologies; you are not expected to write code, but you need to help the team work through complex technical issues.
• Ability to create and maintain a positive, healthy team environment in which everyone is supported, encouraged, and meaningfully challenged to do great work.
• Capable of driving the delivery of projects and creating roadmaps for future work.
• Experience helping a team scale both themselves and the services they are responsible for.
• Experience managing a remote team.
