Staff Developer, SDLC Foundations

1Password is hiring a Staff Developer for its SDLC Foundations team, which builds and evolves the tooling and services that power the software development lifecycle for every engineering team at the company. The team owns the centralized feature flag platform, telemetry, and developer experience tooling, alongside an emerging experimentation platform. You'll serve as the technical DRI for foundational platform work, owning architectural decisions that raise the bar for how engineers across 1Password build, ship, and operate software safely, while acting as a force multiplier for the developers around you.

Responsibilities

• Play a foundational role in shaping how 1Password engineers build and ship features reliably and safely at scale.
• Establish technical guardrails and best practices that ensure platform velocity does not come at the cost of reliability, security, or operational maturity.
• Shape and own the team's technical roadmap, ensuring platform investments are well sequenced, strategically grounded, and positioned for long-term impact.
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar for platform thinking across the organization.
• Influence roadmap decisions by grounding strategy in technical constraints and infrastructure opportunity.
• Stay hands-on in implementation work where architectural depth is required.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software development experience in a production SaaS environment.
• Hands-on experience building and evolving platform-level services: feature flagging systems, telemetry, developer tooling, or experimentation infrastructure.
• Proven ability to design scalable backend services and APIs that span multiple product surfaces and teams.
• Experience leading cross-team technical initiatives that require alignment across frontend, backend, platform, and product stakeholders.
• Proficiency in Go.
• Demonstrated ability to influence engineering direction beyond your immediate team, and to move ambiguous, high-impact problems forward with autonomy.
• Bonus: experience with centralized feature flag or A/B testing systems at scale, schema type systems, developer experience tooling (build tooling, CI/CD, local dev environments), Nix or monorepo tooling, or designing and operating telemetry and observability platforms.
