Senior Growth Engineer
Buffer $156.5K - $202.3K/year Posted 3 days ago
About the role
Buffer builds social media and brand-building software for small businesses, creators, and individuals, as a fully distributed team that defaults to transparency. The Senior Growth Engineer is a hands-on role on the Growth Marketing team, building the web experiences, systems, and infrastructure that help Buffer grow: features and pages across buffer.com, interactive tools, referral systems, and conversion flows, along with the technical implementation behind them, from marketing tool integrations to analytics pipelines and SEO infrastructure. The team values pace and iteration, shipping quickly and learning from real usage, while caring about craft and UX details.
Responsibilities
- Own growth engineering projects end-to-end, from implementing a localization framework for international audiences to building referral program logic, attribution systems, and rebuilding tracking infrastructure for accuracy and reliability.
- Build features on Buffer's marketing site that help people discover and try Buffer: landing pages, interactive tools, benchmarks, calculators, and conversion flows.
- Shape marketing platform capabilities: A/B testing infrastructure, programmatic page generation for SEO and AEO, content management patterns, and reusable components that make future projects easier to ship.
- Drive experimentation and optimization, setting up experiments, validating results, and iterating based on what the team discovers.
- Strengthen foundations by maintaining integrations with the marketing technology stack (Segment, GTM, Mixpanel, BigQuery), upgrading dependencies, optimizing performance, and ensuring accessibility, plus sharing the on-call rotation.
- Help shape engineering culture through pairing, code review, and knowledge sharing about growth systems and marketing engineering patterns.
Qualifications
- Strong frontend foundations in React, TypeScript, and modern web development, comfortable going beyond the frontend: writing backend logic, building API routes, and connecting third-party integrations. The site runs on Next.js, but adaptability matters more than an exact stack match.
- You understand what it takes to grow something, whether from a marketing or growth team role or from growing your own product, with hands-on experience in SEO, analytics, A/B testing, and conversion optimization.
- You think beyond the immediate task, caring how things connect and whether they will hold up, while knowing when to ship and learn from real usage.
- You thrive in remote, async environments, communicate clearly, and can explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
- You have built AI into user-facing marketing features at scale and use AI tools daily to multiply your own output.
- You have a personal stake in content creation, whether a newsletter, a social audience, or regularly sharing your own work online.
