Senior Technical Content Editor
Trail of Bits $120K - $150K/year Posted 4 days ago
About the role
Trail of Bits is looking for a Senior Technical Content Editor who operates at the intersection of technical editing and marketing content production. This hybrid role supports two critical functions: maintaining the quality and velocity of the security report pipeline, and producing marketing content that amplifies the firm's research, tools, and thought leadership. Expect roughly a 60% focus on technical editing and 40% on marketing content, shifting toward 50/50 as the team scales. Every day, you will translate complex technical ideas into clear, polished, compelling content for security engineers and researchers: editing a blockchain audit report in the morning, writing a blog post around a tool release in the afternoon, and drafting social copy for a conference talk by end of day.
Responsibilities
- Edit security reports across application security, blockchain, cryptography, AI/ML, and research and engineering engagements, ensuring technical accuracy, clarity, and adherence to Trail of Bits style standards.
- Develop, edit, and publish posts on the Trail of Bits blog, managing publication through GitHub pull requests and coordinating with internal and external reviewers.
- Manage the team's report tracker and quality metrics systems, giving leadership visibility into editing throughput, revision cycles, and delivery timelines.
- Build and refine Claude-based tools for content creation and editorial refinement.
- Lead document design beyond reports: SOWs, proposals, engineer bios, program overviews, case studies, and testimonials.
- Identify and produce marketing content proactively (blog posts, case studies, social threads, newsletter sections, event collateral), and own the content calendar with the Technical Marketing Manager and Lead Technical Editor.
- Create and publish social media content across X, LinkedIn, Bluesky, and Telegram, and write for demand generation campaigns, email sequences, webinar materials, and conference activations.
- Elevate the writing and communication of team members across GTM and engineering.
Qualifications
- Strong editorial skills: grammar, mechanics, and style are second nature, from line-level edits to structural reorganization.
- Content marketing awareness: you understand how content drives pipeline and have worked on campaigns, content calendars, or marketing assets in a technical B2B environment.
- Technical content experience: you have edited technical content in cybersecurity or another technical field and partnered with subject matter experts to draw out and shape content.
- Writing ability: you produce original content for both deeply technical and business audiences, not just polish other people's work.
- Tool proficiency: comfortable in developer-adjacent workflows like GitHub, Hugo, and Slack, with experience using automation to speed up editorial work.
- AI fluency: hands-on experience with AI tools like Claude for content creation and refinement; you will be expected to use, improve, and build on Trail of Bits' Claude-based editorial tooling.
- Ownership and independence: you operate with minimal direction and can defend your editorial choices to engineers and leadership.
- Nice to have: InDesign or equivalent layout tools, cybersecurity or developer tools content background, HubSpot familiarity, and editorial operations experience at scale.
