About the role
DigitalOcean is looking for a seasoned Senior Engineering Manager to lead its Security Products engineering team. You will be responsible for the development and delivery of security solutions that protect customers globally, leading a high-performing team of engineers and fostering a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous improvement while aligning with the company's global security strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary engineering team focused on building scalable security products.
- Drive the technical roadmap and execution for security features, including threat detection, identity management, and data protection.
- Manage delivery timelines, inter-team dependencies, and proactive risk mitigation to ensure on-time execution of product milestones such as preview and GA launches.
- Establish sustaining engineering practices, including technical debt reduction, resolving aging tickets, and ensuring comprehensive security rule and feature coverage.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Security Architects to define product requirements and technical specifications.
- Ensure high standards of code quality, security best practices, and operational excellence across the development lifecycle.
- Manage recruitment, performance reviews, and career development for the engineering team.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4+ years in a senior leadership or management role.
- Proven track record of delivering complex security products or cloud-scale distributed systems, with significant exposure to building products at security companies or within security functions.
- Deep understanding of security protocols, cryptography, and modern web application security.
- Expert-level Go and strong JavaScript/Node.js skills, with a track record of designing high-throughput, scalable systems with large data requirements.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems (consensus, replication, partitioning, consistency), plus production Apache Flink and advanced Kafka experience processing high-volume event streams.
- Deep Kubernetes expertise running security-critical workloads at scale, cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, Azure), and infrastructure as code expertise (Terraform, Helm, Chef).
- Experience building systems handling millions of events per second, and familiarity with security tools such as SIEM, WAF, IDS/IPS, and vulnerability scanners.
