About the role
ClickHouse Labs is the applied research group inside ClickHouse, and this is a research role with a production exit route rather than a publication-only one.
The problems are database internals: query optimization and planning, execution engines, indexing and data structures, storage management, distributed data management and consensus, and redesigning components to use modern hardware properly. Named targets are reducing CPU and memory overhead, raising throughput and concurrency, and scaling across distributed deployments, evaluated under realistic workloads and hardware rather than on paper. The work lands in open source systems, ClickHouse and PostgreSQL both, and the posting is explicit that researchers build production-grade implementations alongside prototypes and work with the engine, infrastructure and data-plane teams to get them in.
Publishing, open source contribution and conference participation are all encouraged. The posting lists the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands, and publishes salary only for the US, which is the band shown here: two tiers, with the higher one for San Francisco, New York and Seattle. Remote, US.
