The role is the resident expert on why websites break and how to fix them, on the Web Dependability Engineering team, across DuckDuckGo's browsers on Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. Recent projects give the flavour better than the responsibilities do: reverse-engineering how sites detect the browser's privacy protections and building countermeasures that keep those pages working, shimming browser APIs so sites behave the same across different engines and system webviews, and building LLM agent pipelines that reproduce and triage reported breakage automatically.

Day to day it is owning webcompat triage, debugging hard problems in code you do not control, telling a site bug from a browser bug from protection-induced breakage, and leading the response when a top site breaks and it becomes an incident. It asks for 7+ years building and debugging complex web applications in vanilla JavaScript, detailed knowledge of web standards, web components and browser APIs, and an advanced ability to reduce obfuscated third-party code to a minimal test case.
