Senior Software Engineer

GitHub's Developer Experience (DX) organization is seeking a Senior Engineer for the Build and Test team, which owns the core build and continuous integration systems used across the company. DX improves how GitHub engineers build, test, and ship software, spanning CI/CD platforms, developer tooling, virtualized infrastructure, and the paved paths that let teams move quickly while staying reliable and secure. You will operate highly available, company-wide CI platforms, improve reliability and performance with partner teams, and continuously reduce friction in the developer workflow.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineering teams, product management, customers, and engineering leadership to align on and understand the problems worth solving.
• Drive technical solutions to GitHub's most critical problems, unblocking others through design guidance and hands-on contribution, both in real time and asynchronously in Issues, PRs, and Discussions.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders and leadership on technical direction, progress, and risks.
• Partner across the team and with stakeholders to build relationships and identify technical opportunities and areas of improvement.
• Drive good architectural design outcomes, secure and resilient systems, and quality code.
• Improve CI reliability, reduce test flakiness, and respond to incidents affecting mission-critical build infrastructure.
• Iteratively ship features and bug fixes, balancing speed to market with future velocity.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience delivering production software in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python (less with a relevant degree, or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of Ruby or Go experience.
• 3+ years of experience working in Azure, AWS, or GCP, and 3+ years working with CI/CD pipelines.
• Preferred: experience with Terraform and Kubernetes, and 5+ years working with cloud technologies.
• Preferred: experience working remotely as part of a distributed engineering team, ideally within a developer experience organization.
• Preferred: excellent analytical and communication skills, in code, in writing, and when explaining complex technical issues to non-technical colleagues.
