Trust & Safety Specialist I

GitHub's Trust and Safety team is hiring a Trust & Safety Specialist I to review reported content and help keep the platform safe for millions of developers. You will learn to review images, videos, audio, URLs, and text-based content against GitHub's guidelines and policies, working from ticketing and content moderation queues with support from experienced teammates. The role may involve non-standard hours, including one weekend day a week, and exposure to content that can be graphic, violent, sexual, or otherwise distressing.

Responsibilities

• Perform content moderation tasks in a specialty area (technical, legal, general abuse) on highly sensitive material such as malware, phishing, intellectual property, private information removal, hate speech, harassment, and spam to identify content that violates GitHub's Terms of Service.
• Connect reviewed content to multiple guidelines and reference materials to determine and recommend the appropriate response, with direction from others.
• Check ticketing and moderation queues to determine assignments and prioritization, using in-house and third-party moderation tools.
• Attend calibration sessions with team members to stay aligned with current guidelines.
• Support engagements and projects with guidance from senior colleagues or program managers.
• Raise questions about guidelines and contribute to continuous improvement of processes, policies, and work instructions.
• Report issues and submit enhancement requests to tooling teams to support improvement efforts.
• Participate in team wellness programs and maintain a personal resilience and wellbeing plan.

Qualifications

• Experience in work requiring privacy, discretion, or exposure to sensitive situations or content, for example cybersecurity, digital safety, content review, content moderation tooling, data annotation, paralegal, or law enforcement work.
• 6+ months of experience working or communicating with users or customers.
• 1+ year of experience working with version control systems.
• Strict adherence to privacy policies when accessing and handling data.
