Director of Product Design

Help Scout makes customer support software used by more than 10,000 businesses, and has been fully remote since it started in 2011. It is now building AI into the product and into how the company works.

The Director of Product Design leads a small team of experienced designers as a player-coach and reports to the CPO. You would own the design principles and standards that keep the product feeling like Help Scout, be accountable for the HSDS design system and its adoption across product and engineering, and set the company's view on trustworthy AI experiences. The role also covers how design gets done as AI speeds up delivery, where design capacity goes, and working with brand design on consistency between marketing and the app.

They want 10+ years in product design, including 3+ years managing designers, with experience leading staff or principal designers, building a design system that teams actually adopted, and making complex B2B software feel simple. You should be technically fluent enough to earn engineers' trust and a strong remote communicator.

Pay is $226,000 to $242,000 plus equity, set by an internal transparent salary formula. Remote, open to US-based applicants only.
