What this list establishes

This is a record of announced policy changes, not a claim that every employee now follows one rule. We link the employer's announcement, label its date and retain stated exceptions. A check date means we reviewed the source; it does not prove that an older announcement is the latest policy for every team. Ask about the current requirement for any role you consider.

Three questions before you apply
  • Does the announcement cover your team and location?
  • Is attendance required every day, or on a hybrid schedule?
  • Are remote exceptions still available for the role?

1 company

A five-day office expectation

A move from hybrid attendance to a full working week in the office, with exceptions explicitly retained.

  1. Andy Jassy's September 2024 update moved Amazon's office expectation from at least three days a week to five, effective 2 January 2025. It retained approved remote-work exceptions and allowances for extenuating circumstances.

    Announced
    16 September 2024.
    Takes effect
2 January 2025 in the announcement.
    Change
    Three-day office attendance becomes a five-day expectation.
    Exceptions
Approved Remote Work Exceptions and circumstances such as illness, travel or emergencies.
    Check
Confirm the role's designation rather than assuming every Amazon job is office-based.

Hybrid mandates and relocation

These announcements restrict fully remote work for affected employees. They do not establish a five-day office rule across either entire company.

  1. Microsoft's September 2025 update introduced a three-day office expectation, starting with Puget Sound employees living within 50 miles of an office. The announcement described later phases elsewhere rather than one immediate global start date.

    Announced
    9 September 2025.
    Takes effect
By the end of February 2026 for the specified Puget Sound group.
    Change
Three office days a week for affected employees.
    Exceptions
Exceptions could be requested; some business groups could depart from the company-wide expectation.
    Check
The source does not establish later rollout dates for every US and international office.
  2. Roblox's October 2023 announcement asked affected remote employees to join a three-day schedule at its San Mateo offices or leave with severance. Employees choosing relocation were asked to start working there by 15 July 2024.

    Announced
    17 October 2023.
    Takes effect
15 July 2024 relocation deadline in the announcement.
    Change
A relocation decision and Tuesday-to-Thursday office schedule for affected remote staff.
    Exceptions
Roles that need to be remote and selected people with specialised skills or institutional knowledge.
    Check
This records the 2023 decision, not a claim that all present-day Roblox roles use that exact schedule.

Reading the caveats

Have these companies abandoned remote work completely?

That would overstate the evidence. These announcements introduce or increase office requirements for specified employees, with exceptions. A hybrid mandate is a loss of fully remote flexibility for affected people, but it is not a universal five-day return.

Why use old announcements?

They document a change that actually happened or was scheduled, rather than repeating an undated reputation. We show the announcement and effective dates separately. For a new application, check the current role and ask whether its terms can change.

What should I ask before accepting a remote offer?

Ask which location the role is assigned to, how often attendance is required, whether relocation could be requested and where the agreed arrangement is recorded. A remote vacancy should not be inferred from a company's historic reputation alone.
