Senior Software Engineer Copilot AI Models

The GitHub Copilot AI Models team builds and evolves the robust, scalable platform that powers GitHub Copilot and its integrations. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work on highly available backend services and APIs that support Copilot features, ensuring consistent, performant, and safe access at scale. The Copilot API platform underpins the reliability and scalability of features used by developers worldwide, and your work will directly enable other engineering teams to integrate with Copilot capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and ship high-quality technical solutions that scale across multiple GitHub services.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement innovative solutions.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, pairing, and code reviews to encourage the growth of others.
• Own and advocate for the health and quality of the team's systems, including on-call and first responder rotations.
• Write architecture briefs and proposals, carry out code experiments, and build prototypes aimed at planetary scale.
• Design and implement APIs to facilitate seamless integration between software components.
• Use CI/CD tooling to set up automated pipelines for continuous integration and delivery.
• Balance latency, cost, and operational excellence while improving the quality and maintainability of the systems you own.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience delivering production software in languages such as Go, Ruby, Rust, Python, C#, or Java.
• Experience building and operating distributed systems in production, with attention to system behavior, reliability, and performance.
• Preferred: 2+ years with scripting languages such as Bash or Python and general purpose languages such as Go or Ruby.
• Preferred: 3+ years with cloud environments and CNCF concepts.
