Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Compliance Automation (Platform)

Coinbase runs one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges and a wider platform for buying, storing and building with digital assets. It is remote-first, with quarterly in-person working sessions.

This engineer joins the Compliance Automation team in the Platform group, which builds agentic AI systems to take over manual compliance work, from investigation workflows to decision support. You would own the ML architecture for production compliance agents: model selection, prompting, grounding, guardrails and evaluation. You would also build the measurement that catches hallucinations and drift and gives compliance teams and regulators an audit trail, and work with compliance, legal and operations to decide which processes can be fully automated and which need a human in the loop.

They want 8+ years across machine learning and software engineering, including shipping LLM or agent applications to production, deep experience with RAG, grounding and agent orchestration, and a record of building evaluation and monitoring for production models. Strong Python is expected, along with tools such as LangChain, vector databases, Airflow or Spark. Experience in compliance, financial crime or another regulated field matters.

Base pay is $218,025 to $256,500, plus equity, bonus eligibility and benefits. Remote in the United States.
