Senior Data Engineer

Tala builds AI-native credit infrastructure and has extended more than $9 billion in credit to over 14 million customers across Africa, Latin America and Asia. The company works remote-first.

This senior data engineer owns the change data capture and synchronisation pipelines that move data from Tala's market-level databases into Snowflake for analytics and business intelligence. The stack runs on AWS with DMS, Kafka, Spark Structured Streaming, Apache Iceberg and S3. You would keep those pipelines accurate and low latency, onboard new sources, tables and markets, manage schema changes, improve performance and cost, set and monitor SLOs, strengthen testing and deployment, and lead root cause analysis when things break.

Tala wants 4+ years of backend or data engineering, at least 2 years of professional Python, experience running production data pipelines, hands-on CDC and stream processing with tools such as Kafka, MSK or DMS, strong Spark Structured Streaming, lakehouse table formats such as Iceberg, Delta Lake or Hudi, relational and analytical databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL and Snowflake, AWS, and infrastructure as code with tools like Terraform and Helm.

Pay is $130,000 to $200,000 a year. Remote in the United States.
