Senior Engineer, Machine Learning
About the role
Virta Health is a virtual clinic focused on reversing type 2 diabetes and metabolic disease through technology, personalised nutrition and remote care. The Applied AI team builds the models that decide who needs a coach's attention, which nudges help, and how members progress.
As a senior machine learning engineer you would turn clinical and operational questions into well-scoped ML tasks, ship predictive models that drive member care, and put per-model logic on Virta's ML platform so models retrain, detect drift and stay healthy without constant babysitting. The role covers offline and online evaluation for messy healthcare outcomes, causal ML and experimentation with Product Analytics, and GenAI-derived signals for coaching product squads. You would lead complex initiatives across Applied AI, ML Ops, Product Engineering and clinicians.
Virta wants 5+ years building production ML systems, strong traditional ML on longitudinal data (including tree-based models and time series), rigorous evaluation and experimental design, and clear communication of model behaviour and limits to technical and clinical partners.
Pay is $161,500 to $232,500 a year depending on location, plus equity. Remote-first in the United States, with optional office hubs in Denver and San Francisco.
