Staff Software Engineer, Compute (Temporal Cloud)

Temporal makes the open-source durable execution platform of the same name and runs Temporal Cloud, its managed service. The Compute team builds the managed compute primitives that run customer workers and other execution systems across Temporal Cloud, spanning serverless-style runtimes, containerised fleets and customer-controlled deployments.

As a staff engineer you would design new compute primitives with clean APIs that work across compute providers, build autoscaling systems that scale worker fleets safely and predictably, and help define where the open-source server ends and the cloud product begins. You would architect and operate services on the hot path of task execution, deliver integrations such as running in customer cloud accounts (IAM boundaries, credentials, networking and quotas), and own SLOs, tracing, load testing and incident reviews. Design docs, reviews and mentoring are part of the job.

Temporal wants significant experience building and running distributed systems or multi-tenant platform services, strong systems fundamentals around concurrency, performance and reliability, a record of shipping platform primitives other engineers use, and clear written communication. Go is a plus, as is experience with Kubernetes controllers and CRDs or cross-account IAM models.

Pay is $169,600 to $273,920 a year depending on US location tier, plus equity. Remote in the United States.
