Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Risk)

Coinbase is a remote-first cryptocurrency exchange. On the Risk Engineering team inside Consumer and Business, this senior backend engineer builds systems that detect fraud, manage credit and market risk, and protect users in real time at crypto-market scale.

You would lead end-to-end design and delivery of risk platform features, drive architecture for detection and mitigation systems, and partner with Data Science, ML, Risk Analysts, Product and Compliance. The work spans real-time decisioning engines, model-driven fraud detection, incident response tooling, compliance-driven controls, and AI-native agent workflows that cut manual intervention. Mentoring, design docs, incident response and post-mortems are expected.

Coinbase wants 5+ years of backend engineering on complex production systems, deep skill in Go, Ruby, Python or Java, experience with microservices, event-driven architectures and REST or GraphQL APIs, and a record of turning ambiguous risk requirements into scalable architectures.

Base pay is $186,065 a year, with equity and bonus eligibility. Remote in the United States. Coinbase holds quarterly in-person working sessions.
