Staff Software Engineer - Builder Platform

Temporal makes the open-source durable execution platform of the same name and runs Temporal Cloud. The Builder Platform team builds the internal agent, workflow and developer-infrastructure platform Temporal runs on as customer zero.

As a staff engineer you would own strategy and operation of the Agent Platform, design AI infrastructure such as LLM and MCP gateways, build agents and workflows that carry engineering and business work into production, and lead Developer Infrastructure for source control, CI and developer tools. You would drive adoption of agentic tooling across the company, measure usage and reliability, feed requirements back into Temporal's products, mentor engineers, and take part in on-call.

Temporal wants strong engineering fundamentals, experience leading internal platforms or developer tooling, fluency with modern agentic coding tools, proficiency in Go, TypeScript, Python or Java, and judgment about when to standardise versus leave teams flexibility.

Pay is $169,600 to $278,250 a year depending on US location tier, plus equity. Remote in the United States or Canada.
