About the role

Red Hat is hiring a User Experience Designer to assist in the planning, collection, and analysis of key data to uncover insights that inform design decisions, product decisions, and features. You will collaborate with engineers, product managers, and other design teams to plan and produce key IT enterprise products and processes, designing for technical users such as developers, sysadmins, and platform engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Uncover user needs, friction points, and opportunities through data analysis, generating and prioritizing insights, and creating and sharing data-driven user journeys with the cross-functional team.
  • Plan and produce key IT enterprise products and processes, acting on key data including limitations, resourcing, capabilities, and performance requirements.
  • Work closely with the UX Research team to plan, execute, and analyze usability tests, validating understanding or uncovering key gaps and opportunities.
  • Utilize relevant Agile methodologies and tooling, building relationships across multiple cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Advocate for direct access to end users to understand their pain points, and engage with technical issues and reported bugs to improve products and experiences.
  • Understand and socialize the user's end-to-end journey, aligning to key industry standards around reporting, costs, and security needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Science, Media Studies, Interaction Design, or a related field and at least one year of experience designing user experiences for applications.
  • Experience with high-fidelity prototyping tools, creating complex interactive prototypes that closely mimic final product functionality.
  • Experience collaborating with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders in an agile development environment, translating design concepts into functional products.
  • Strong grounding in interaction design principles and in working within and contributing to large, comprehensive design systems, including building component libraries in industry-standard design tooling.
  • Visual design experience with color, typography, and layout, plus experience with accessibility standards, screen reader technology, and inclusive interface design.
  • Experience conducting and analyzing user research (usability studies, surveys, interviews) and using data analytics to guide KPI-oriented design improvements.
  • Experience designing for technical audiences: infrastructure-as-code projects, CLI and GUI environments, technical onboarding, and open source contribution, plus heuristic assessment using the Nielsen Norman methodology.
  • Design communication experience delivering technical and non-technical presentations to large and small audiences.
